Petition to Impeach Bush and his Top Officials   For you to sign
Comment by Larry Ross
December 31, 2005
Here is a vitally important petition to the U.S. Senate to impeach George Bush and key administration officials. Bush
has committed so many impeachable offences against the U.S. Constitution and against international law. His lies to Americans to get them to support his war on Iraq is a major impeachable offence. His continuing to make illegal, unjustified war every day, resulting in the death or maiming of thousands of Americans is an impeachable offence.

CIA exposed As Doing Bush's Dirty Work
Comment by Larry Ross
December 30, 2005
Assassinations of anyone, anywhere is the world, as long as Bush claims they are linked to al Qaeda, is one of the many asssignments Bush gave to the CIA in 2001. It is incredible what the US gets away with using CIA agents. Then the CIA becomes the whipping boy for blame if Bush lies are exposed, such as the alleged 'intelligence failure' which Bush claims caused him to go to war against Iraq.
More and more the world is becoming a police state, with a huge infrastructure of secret agents enforcing Bush's crazy edicts and judgements.

Iran War Much More Horrific than Iraq War
Comment by Larry Ross
December 30, 2005
Long term C.I.A. analysts, authors of the following dire warning against a U.S. war with Iran, are saying what many others have said on our website, that Bush plans this war with Iran; that it is linked to U.S. Israeli policy; that it could become nuclear and threaten all humanity; that this war is very much against the interests of the U.S. and others; that the neocons have pushed this policy as well as initiated the war on Iraq primarily to satisfy Israel's territorial ambitions; that most Americans fear to speak out because they have been conditioned to believe that those against Israeli policy are anti-Semitic.
It's More Important Than Halting Nuclear Proliferation
December 29, 2005
Let's Stop a US/Israeli War on Iran
The peace movements of the entire world should be in crisis mode right now, working non-stop to prevent the U.S. and Israel from starting a war against Iran. (See the James Petras article in CounterPunch on December 24, 2005 titled Iran in the Crosshairs for the best summary of the present situation.) The reckless and unnecessary dangers arising from such a war are so obvious that one wonders why normal political forces in the two aggressor countries -- both of whom love to glorify themselves as democracies -- would not prevent such a war from happening.
  Iran in the Crosshairs
by Ryan McGreal, ICH
August 24, 2005
Iran's danger to America is not its nuclear program but its plan to introduce a euro-based energy exchange.
Starting in 2006, Iran will start up an "oil bourse", or a stock exchange for trading energy, that will be based on the euro, not the US dollar. While this may seem innocuous, it will be a grave risk to continued American global hegemony.

U.S. Public Has Adapted to Bush
Comment by Larry Ross
December 29, 2005
Robert Steinback has written an excellent analysis of how far the American public has adapted to Bushism since the 9/11
attack in 2001. Although Bush's popularity has gone down to 35%, his control over the country is not seriously challenged.
He still gets what he wants with a few modest objections. More importantly he continues to wage an illegal war based on lies, and plans for a war on Iran, perhaps with nuclear weapons. Remarkably few object. Even the Democratic Party don't oppose him, and refused to tell the American people the truth about Bush's Iraq war lies. They actually support that illegal war based on a litany of lies They refuse to expose and fight Bush's electronic voting machine fraud in the 2004 election, that gave him another term in the Whitehouse. There is no longer a real opposition party in the USA.
Fear destroys what bin Laden could not
December 27, 2005

If, back in 2001, anyone had told me that four years after bin Laden's attack our president would admit that he broke U.S. law against domestic spying and ignored the Constitution -- and then expect the American people to congratulate him for it -- I would have presumed the girders of our very Republic had crumbled.
Had anyone said our president would invade a country and kill 30,000 of its people claiming a threat that never, in fact, existed, then admit he would have invaded even if he had known there was no threat -- and expect America to be pleased by this -- I would have thought our nation's sensibilities and honor had been eviscerated.

It's amazing how Bush's popularity has sunk so low - to 35% approval. Yet he and his cronies can pretty much please themselves at U.S. taxpayers expense, and engage in endless wars for a few more years to come or escalates to a nuclear war.

by Robert Scheer

For the Bush White House, the good news from Iraq just never stops. But the joy that President Bush has expressed over the country's latest election, though more restrained than his infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech, will similarly come back to haunt him.
Soon after Bush spoke of the Iraqi election as "a landmark day in the history of liberty," early returns representing 90 percent of the ballots cast in the Iraq election established that the clear winners were Shiite and Sunni religious parties not the least bit interested in Western-style democracy or individual freedom -- including such extremists as Muqtada al-Sadr, whose fanatical followers have fought pitched battles with U.S. troops.

  Bombing Civilians in Iraq
Comment by Larry Ross
December 20, 2005

The great increase in U.S. bombing in Iraq does not help the U.S. win their illegal war.
It does make many more Iraqi casualties and many more opponents of the U.S. occupation and war making. The U.S. then calls them "terrorists", thereby attempting to justify even more bombing.
......It is not a war on terrorism in Iraq. The U.S. makes terrorists where there were none before.
It is a war on civilians.

  Ignoring the Air War
December 14, 2005

The American media continues to ignore the increasingly devastating air war being waged in Iraq against an ever more belligerent Iraqi resistance -- and, as usual, Iraqi civilians continue to bear the largely unreported brunt of the bombing.
When the air war shows up at all in our press, it is never as a campaign, but as scattered bare-bones reports of individual attacks on specific targets, almost invariably based on military announcements.

December 15, 2005

Ernest Partridge's article shows how thoroughly U.S. Democracy has been hi-jacked by the Bush Administration and Republican Party. It implies that the Democratic Party has become a corrupt adjunct of Bush Republicans. Elected representatives of both Parties are joining in history's greatest conspiracy to defraud the American people of their Democracy, rob them and send them to die and be wounded in endless wars based on lies.

If by “victory” is meant a majority vote cast at the polls, then the Democrats achieved “victory” in 2000, 2002 and 2004. And yet, the Republicans remain in control of the Congress and the White House.

U.S. Neocons Promote War With Iran For Israel
Comment by Larry Ross
December 13, 2005

One of the strongest influences in the Bush Administration are the Neo-Conservatives. They fill many of the top positions in the Bush Administration. Their war plans for the U.S. in the Middle East have so far been implemented, such as their phoney war with Iraq. It was promoted before the 9/11 attack- the "Pearl Harbour" the Neocons claimed they needed to justify the war to the American people. Although the war was based on a number of lies - now well-known and publicised, both the Republicans and Democrats want victory over Iraq - nothing less. This and John Kerry and Hillary Clinton's silence about the war lie's is one of many indications that the Democrats have sold out to the Republicans and that the American system of Democracy has been corrupted by the military/industrial complex, other corporates, the oil interests and other special interests.

Neocons Concentrate on Promoting U.S.-Iran War
by Andrew I. Killgore, Washington Report
March 2005

Steven P. Weisman wrote in The New York Times of Nov. 19 that the “biggest challenge” in President George W. Bush’s second term is “how to contain” Iran’s nuclear program. In fact, however, Iran constitutes no threat to the United States. Its “threat” is to Israel, according to “some” (read neocons) in the administration who believe that Iran supports violence against Israel and helps the resistance in Iraq.

People may not be aware of how deeply the criminal neocon system of beliefs have permeated the Bush Administration. It is very pervasive, very committed, criminally insane, and convinced they are right.   Nuclear Weapons For Iran? No. It's The Road to Extinction
Comment by Larry Ross
December 6, 2005

This article gives an excellent case for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and for other states to acquire them who might become potential US targets.
However in the case of Iran, according to Scott Ritter and other experts, the US is almost ready to strike and as the following article illustrates, US media is daily conditioning the US public that Iran is an enemy that should be attacked before it gets nuclear weapons and attacks the US.

  Nuclear Iran? You bet!
by Mike Whitney
December 5, 2005

Is there a case to be made for allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons in the interests of peace? Or has all the air been sucked out of the debate by American and Israeli demagogues who dominate the airwaves?
The case for a nuclear Iran doesn’t emerge from fear-mongering or saber-rattling, like the alternate view, but from reason and respect for widely accepted facts; both of which are sadly missing from the analysis appearing in the western media.

Jorge Hirsch is a Professor of Physics who writes extensively on nuclear issues. His conclusions are similar to mine and to others who study and analyse nuclear policies. Such as Dr Helen Caldicott who has predicted a nuclear war during Bush's second term.
As Dr. Hirsch suggests: the time for discussion and protest about a potential, clandestine, sudden nuclear attack on Iran is now, not after the damage has been done.

Or will the world allow it to happen?
The Bush administration has put together all the elements it needs to justify the impending military action against Iran. Unlike in the case of Iraq, it will happen without warning, and most of the justifications will be issued after the fact. We will wake up one day to learn that facilities in Iran have been bombed in a joint U.S.-Israeli attack. It may even take another couple of days for the revelation that some of the U.S. bombs were nuclear.

Professor van Creveld is an Israeli military historian who agrees with most of the right-wing myths of the middle east. So his following judgement on Bush is particularly interesting.
"For misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 B.C sent his legions into Germany and lost them, Bush deserves to be impeached and, once he has been removed from office, put on trial along with the rest of the president's men. If convicted, they'll have plenty of time to mull over their sins.

Once again we have John Pilger at his best revealing how even the revered BBC is little more than a sophisticated propagandist for the UK State. The BBC endlessly repeats Tony Blair's and George Bush lies over their illegal and totally unjustified war on Iraq. It carefully avoids reporting damming key facts about that war, as Pilger so ably documents.
The mass media in other countries - the U.S., Australia and New Zealand is just as bad and very much the servant of Bush-Blair-Howard pro-war propaganda.

Democrats Also Responsible for Iraq War And Similar Wars to Come
Comment by Larry Ross
November 22, 2005

......a war on Iran could become larger than the one on Iraq, with far more domestic repression in the U.S. and other states in the 'coalition of the willing'. As the US. military is now over extended, a new larger war may mean the Bush Administration will justify the use of nuclear weapons.
As the consequences could be far greater for everyone than those of the Iraq war, preventative actions should be taken by governments now, before the event. Afterward may be too late to be of much use.

The refrain of the Democrats about being misled into supporting the invasion of Iraq has become really tired. And someone other than the White House smearmongers needs to say it: The Democrats cannot be allowed to use faulty intelligence as a crutch to hold up their unforgivable support for the Iraq invasion. What is DNC Chair Howard Dean's excuse? He wasn't in Congress and didn't have any access to Senate intelligence. Still, on March 9, 2003, just days before the invasion began, Dean told Tim Russet, on NBC's Meet The Press, "I don't want Saddam staying in power with control over those weapons of mass destruction. I want him to be disarmed."

It is likely that the US brand of Fascism will become much more overt and repressive, especially if given a boost along that road by new 9/11 incidents. This report of Dr Robert White's paper on some of the historical background to N.Z.'s 1984 nuclear-free legislation contains many useful and valuable facts.
As the originator of the campaign to make New Zealand a nuclear free zone, I will offer some comment and point out a few gaps. These can be examined in greater detail on our website: http://www.nuclearfree.org.nz/archives/creationnznf.htm
The article does not mention the importance of the local and national nuclear free zone campaign in causing the Labour Party to make the decision for David Lange to propose in 1984:
" If we are elected government of New Zealand we will make the whole country nuclear free."

Dr Robert White spoke to the July meeting of the Auckland Branch of ESR to comment on the historical background to New Zealand's anti-nuclear legislation in 1984, and comment on the present situation.
On 14 July 1984 the Labour Government came to power and introduced the first nuclear-free policy for weapons and reactors on ships that New Zealand had ever had. It also established NZ as the first ever, single-nation, nuclear weapons-free zone. NZ is the only country that has put its nuclear-free policy into law which is comprehensive and expresses our complete rejection of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, or having anything to do with them. For many New Zealanders it is very symbolic and has won our country international recognition as an advocate of a nuclear-free world.

to Continuing US-UK War Crimes in Iraq Now Tony Blair's military are putting Kendall-Smith on trial for refusing to serve again in Iraq because he believes the war is illegal. The evidence keeps piling up, far more than we had in 2003 and 2004 that the war is illegal and violates every law, every convention, every treaty on every aspect of waging war, that humanity has ever created. Really it is so absolutely stupefying, and I am amazed that there is so little opposition to Blair's colossal deceit. The British people seem to be as much a pushover for war propaganda and lies as the Germans were under Hitler. But it's worse, far worse.......

The question of legality deeply concerns the British military brass, who sought Tony Blair's assurance on the eve of the invasion, got it and, as they now know, were lied to. They are right to worry; Britain is a signatory to the treaty that set up the International Criminal Court, which draws its codes from the Geneva Conventions and the 1945 Nuremberg Charter. The latter is clear: "To initiate a war of aggression... is not only an international crime, it is the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

  Terrorist Action and Threats?
Comment by Larry Ross
October 27, 2005

The following short, humorous piece raises some very profound and disturbing questions about the London bombings. Using the alleged terrorist action as justification, Tony Blair is trying to push draconian anti-terrorist laws through the UK Parliament. These proposed laws seem to have little real purpose in opposing and detecting terrorists. But they would be very effective in intimidating the public, silencing dissent, curtailing civil liberties, and generally increasing control of the general public. Tony Blair is deeply enmeshed in a web of deceit, using a tissue of lies to deceive the UK public and Parliament into supporting the illegal invasion, occupation and continued war on the Iraqi people.

  U.S. Bombing of Iran Likely
Comment by Larry Ross
October 24, 2005

The US army and marines are heavily committed in Iraq, but soldiers could be found if the Bush administration were intent on invasion. Donald Rumsfeld has been reorganising the army to increase front-line forces by a third. More importantly, naval and air force firepower has barely been used in Iraq. Just 120 B52 and stealth bombers could target 5,000 points in Iran with satellite-guided bombs in just one mission. It is for this reason that John Pike of globalsecurity.org thinks that a US attack could come with no warning at all.

Fighting Terror or Expanding US Empire
Comment by Larry Ross
October 20, 2005

Over 350(US) billion dollars yearly finances the US Global War On Terror (GWOT).
As the following report by the Center For Defense Information shows, much of it is wasted. Some 12 billion cannot be accounted for. As pointed out in other papers on this site, the U.S. continues to create enemies in order to justify ever increasing defence budgets. These in turn help make arms corporations very, very wealthy. Naturally that assures continuing large campaign donations from the mainly republican arms trade corporations to ensure Bush and other Republican candidates and chosen Democrats get re-elected.

Cheney's Formula For Endless War and U.S. Empire
Comment by Larry Ross
October 18, 2005

... U.S. strategy is to create the 'so-called ' terrorist threat' which can then be used to justify targeting any nation the U.S. selects in its endless war on terror (GWOT). By attacking various countries, which they justify by lies, as in Iraq, the Bush Administration makes an endless supply of enemies. Bush and his neocons then label them as 'terrorists'. They blame neighbouring nations for helping these 'terrorists' and proceed with the next phase in the U.S. PNAC expansionist plan.

Dick Cheney's "Global War on Terrorism" (GWOT)
Vice President Cheney in a recent speech to US military personnel has acknowledged that the war could go on for several decades. This statement, which reveals the Bush Administration's commitment to global warfare, was barely mentioned by the mainstream media.
We are dealing with a "military roadmap". Iraq and Afghanistan are at the outset of the Bush administration's military adventure.

Doomsday Clock - Closer to Midnight?
October 13, 2005

Sir,
I have been researching nuclear war issues since 1945, when some 200,000 people were killed by nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since then you have adjusted the hands of your Doomsday Clock 18 times - closer or further from midnight and nuclear war. This depended on developments in nuclear weapon technology, national policies and international threats and crisis. The last time was in 2002 when you moved it from 9 to 7 minutes to midnight. This was because the U.S. rejected a series of arms control treaties and announced its withdrawal from the ABM treaty; nuclear weapons proliferation to India and Pakistan and the so-called ' terrorist threat'. It is now 3 years later and I suggest the threat of a nuclear war has increased to the highest level yet for the following 10 reasons:

It's the 60th anniversary of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which premiered in December, 1945, just a few months after atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The goal of the magazine has always been simple, if somewhat ambitious: to save the world by working to minimize the threat of nuclear war. It came out of a time when physicists were central players in questions of international security. October11, 2005

Bill Gallagher is one of the very few journalists, who write about the amazing and real situation in the US today.
If more journalists, newspapers, TV and radio told the truth, the Bush Administration would probably soon lose power and influence. Bush would be impeached and many in the Bush Administration would be prosecuted for war crimes.

BUSH UNBALANCED AS POLLS PLUMMET - The Great Lie of Our Times
by Bill Gallagher
August 30, 2005

DETROIT -- With George W. Bush, a certifiable madman, in power, it shouldn't be surprising that the rest of our republic is going bonkers. Bush, our commander in sleep, has spread the virus of neo-fascist fever and the bug is gripping our nation like the flu in February. The evidence is compelling.
The national commander of the American Legion demands an end to all "public protests" and "media events" against the war. Commander Thomas Cadmus declared, at the legion's convention in Honolulu, that "it would be tragic if the freedoms our veterans fought so valiantly to protect would be used against their successors today."
I get it. Here's what's wrong with America these days: freedom of speech, the freedom to peaceably assemble, and the right of people to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Those items found in the Bill of Rights are the scourges of our nation. Get rid of those damn freedoms at home and the Iraqis will start tossing rose petals at our troops.

General Smedley Butler's 1933 speech is a classic that applies to Bush and his wars today. General Butler's worst fears have come true - this time with much larger annihilation devices at the command of Bush and his neocons. He gives many examples of the greatly inflated profits enjoyed by the wide range of manufacturers who make materials used in war - from munitions to warships to uniforms. Bush promised an endless "war on terror" to defend Democracy". He is delivering on this promise while creating a record-breaking national debt and enormous profits for the myriad of people and company's engaged in the runaway US war machine.

War Is A Racket It always has been
by Smedley Butler
1933

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.
A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

  Various Ways Extinction Could Occur
Comment by Larry Ross
September 29, 2005

Mankind has created a number of ways which could be used to trigger an extinction process, as assessed by this article by editors of the Bulletin Of Atomic Scientists in Dec 2004. Some factors not assessed, even more relevant today are: 1. The possibility of an unbalanced, rogue and/or ideologically-driven government gaining power and deliberately implementing a strategy of war and terror attacks which then escalate into a self-extinction process. Some suspect this may already be happening....

Nuclear War Plans Can Lead To Extinction
Comment by Larry Ross
September 26, 2005

A search on "Pre-emptive Nuclear War" revealed there are 1,750,000 entries on Google.
They illustrate the colossal investment in designing and making various types of nuclear weapons and the strategies to use them.
Think about the hundreds of billions of dollars poured into the nuclear arms race during the last 65 years since 1945. Now think about the paltry fig-leaf sum devoted to peace and disarmament and the suspicion and rejection of those working in this field. These facts and reflections tell you something about humanity and our runaway race toward extinction.

Six Escalation Scenarios Spiraling to World Nuclear War

A world nuclear war is one that involves most or all nuclear powers releasing a large proportion of their nuclear weapons at targets in nuclear, and perhaps non-nuclear, states. Such a war could be initiated accidentally, aggressively or pre-emptively and could continue and spread through these means or by retaliation by a party attacked by nuclear weapons. While some speak of "limited nuclear war," it is likely that any nuclear war will quickly escalate and spiral out of control because of the "use them or loose them" strategy. If you don't use all your nuclear weapons you are likely to have them destroyed by the enemy's nuclear weapons.

Pre-emptive Nuclear War - A Road Map to Extinction
Comment by Larry Ross
September 26, 2005

This 2003 paper gives a historical record of the development of nuclear war as a tool to achieve US military objectives.
No longer were nuclear weapons to be regarded as a deterrent "last resort" type of doomsday device. There was a new doctrine to use nuclear weapons first or "pre-emptively" - supposedly before the claimed enemy had a chance to use what the Pentagon calls "weapons of mass destruction" against the US.
The Pentagon will supply the so-called "intelligence" to justify it. This would likely be a phoney doctored intelligence, similar to what they supplied to justify the war on Iraq with a litany of accusations later found to be false.
Based on what they knew to be lies, Bush for the US and Blair for the UK , nevertheless warned they might use nuclear weapons against Iraq if Iraq resisted the US-UK invasion with WMD.
The alleged WMD could be anything the Bush Administration chose to define as WMD.

  U.S. PRE-EMPTIVE NUCLEAR STRIKE PLAN
by Jeffrey Steinberg

It Keeps Getting Scarier and Scarier
...The prospect of the U.S. using nuclear weapons against Iraq adds a new, even more horrifying dimension to the threat of war in the Persian Gulf. LaRouche has already called on President Bush to renounce this madness.
The leak of the Jan. 10, 2003 document did not come in a vacuum. For the past year, the Bush Administration has been moving, step by step, to overturn a fifty year policy of keeping nuclear weapons on the shelf, as part of America's strategic deterrent. Here is a short chronology:
In January 2002, the Bush Administration issued its Nuclear Posture Review, a Congressionally mandated report on the U.S. nuclear weapons program.
For the first time, the 2002 report openly discussed the possible use of nuclear weapons, naming seven countries that could be targets of the American nuclear arsenal: Russia, China, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya and Syria.

Hospitals do a lot of radiation for medical purposes, with which we have always agreed. The New Zealand Nuclear Free Peacemaking Association has always agreed with the peaceful applications of nuclear technology for medical and industrial uses. However hospitals are not nuclear powered, but powered by electricity. There is no nuclear power in NZ.

David Lange - Nuclear Free Warrior
Posted September 21, 2005

David Lange was a great man in many ways. His brilliant wit and his grasp of any topic for debate were the first things one noticed. To my mind his most valuable contribution to mankind was that he chose to make the vitally important stand for world nuclear disarmament by declaring New Zealand nuclear free. This was an idea that I had been promoting since 1981. It developed out of 36 years of peacework since the first nuclear bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945. I am deeply grateful that he recognised the potential good this policy could achieve.

US Creates Perpetual War and Terrorism
September 20, 2005

Although written in 2002, the following article gives a blueprint on how the US can create covertly, the very terrorism they condemn and which they use to justify wars - such as the much-predicted war on Iran. It may seem puzzling and counterproductive why the so-called terrorists in Iraq seem to be attacking Sunnis and Shiites in the apparent attempt to foment a civil or religious war between the two factions. Why would they do that if the objective is to get rid of US occupation?
On the other hand if a civil war did develop in Iraq, the US would have a reason to remain rather than withdraw, thus giving them a motive to foment a civil war between the two factions.
The British used similar techniques called "divide and rule" - setting one faction against another - in building their Empire.

Into the Dark: The Pentagon Plan to Foment Terrorism
April 15, 2005

This column stands foursquare with the Honorable Donald H. Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense, when he warns that there will be more terrorist attacks against the American people and civilization at large. We know, as does the Honorable Donald H. Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense, that this statement is an incontrovertible fact, a matter of scientific certainty. And how can we and the Honorable Donald H. Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense, be so sure that there will be more terrorist attacks against the American people and civilization at large?
Because these attacks will be instigated at the order of the Honorable Donald H. Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense.
This astonishing admission was buried deep in a story which was itself submerged by mounds of gray newsprint and glossy underwear ads in last Sunday's Los Angeles Times.

Throughout human history, we have created many ingenious reasons to go to war - thousands of wars.   New Terrorist 'Attack' and Nuclear War on Iran Planned
September 19, 2005

n the article below, past US presidential candidate, Lyndon LaRouche predicts a new Bush neocon-generated terrorist attack on the US. This will be used as an excuse to launch a nuclear attack on Iran, as 9/11 was used to launch an attack on Iraq.
Iraq was accused by a litany of false accusations and outright lies before Bush launched his war. Iran will be similarly accused to justify a US attack. The US people were fooled by Bush's Iraq lies. They approved and re-elected him. As before, the media will repeat the lies justifying the US attack and back new 'patriot' laws suppressing civil liberties, conscription of Americans for war, and smothering any criticism or dissent. Congress and the Senate will fall over themselves praising Bush's leadership and heroism in this time of crisis. Bush's popularity will skyrocket.

If you care about the future you must read these articles
...Today nuclear war threats have become greater than ever with at least 8 nuclear weapon states and a growth in global crisis points where a nuclear war could start. Bill Moyers presents a very good account of Muslim and Christian fundamentalist extremism that is leading the world toward a new holy war. He describes how right-wing Christian Fundamentalism has taken over the Republican Party and many branches of the US government. What he tells us is sobering enough. But even more alarming is the threat of fundamentalism linked to nuclear armageddon and Dispensation theology. They are working towards making the worst of 'End Times' Biblical prophecies come true.
To prepare and condition Americans for the potential horrors, the Bush Administration is greatly magnifying the so-called Muslim terrorist threat, that motivates what was initially, a very tiny and controllable minority of Muslim extremists.

Helen Clark Emphasises Labour's Nuclear-Free Policy
September 13, 2005

In spite of National hecklers causing her to cut short her speech, Helen Clark emphasised her party's nuclear-free
message to Canterbury University students today September 13.
I hope there is still time for this message, and for the range of nuclear issues and consequences if it is changed, to be communicated to voters, so that they take it into account when voting - as they did in 1984 and 1987 when Labour treated it as an important issue.
As mentioned in my September 7 posting, previous Labour leaflets circulated to homes, omitted this important issue.
In fact nuclear issues, and the dangers of a nuclear war, are more important in 2005 than in 1984 when Labour first used this benefit during an election.
NZ media were a bit more honest then and more accurately reported the dangers of nuclear war under US President, Ronald Reagan. People were better informed. Today, the NZ media is much more under foreign control. Most openly support the Bush Regime and illegal war on Iraq. That means that much of the real news about nuclear dangers under Bush and the extremism of the Bush regime is either suppressed, not mentioned at all, or completely misrepresented.

  Labour Leaflets Omit Important Advantage

A very strong case can be made that if National wins the election, the nuclear free laws will soon be gone, if not "by lunch time" at least by "dinner time" or just ignored; nuclear ships will recommence visits to NZ ports; ANZUS or it's equivalent will be restored; NZ combat troops will be sent to Iraq and likely to other wars started by the Bush Administration, such as wars on Iran and Syria.

Bush's Use Of Terror Against Opponents
September 7, 2005

As predicted, Bush is using the law enforcement apparatus of the state to terrorize critics. The 77 year old Korean vet, Don Stout, had broken no laws, but had openly criticised Bush and his policies. In other words he was exercising his democratic political right to criticise and expose the lies of his President. At considerable cost, the Bush machine helicoptered in 8 law enforcement officers who invaded the vet's property without any excuse or explanations.
This shows that America has been taken over by a lawless regime, who have already broken a number of international laws with their war on Iraq based on lies. Now they have begun to be more blatant in violating domestic American law by attacking 77 year Don Stout.
Stout made an important prediction - a new terrorist attack "that will take the heat off Bush" and allow him to declare martial law. Bush may also use it as an excuse to start a war against Iran or Syria, as he used 9/11 to justify his war against Iraq.

Another Step to Self-Extinction
August 23, 2005

Carefully analyse the Russian warning below. It is an ominous warning, but unlikely to deter the Bush Administration's advanced war plans for Iran.
All governments should know about Bush's policies on pre-emptive nuclear war, instructions to the Pentagon for a nuclear assault plan that might be used against Iran, taking out those nations the President decrees could become potential enemies, his 'Axis of Evil' speech and what it means, his Nuclear Posture Review, warning that up to 7 nations could be attacked with US nuclear weapons including Russia and China and the 3 crisis situations that could set it off: (1) The Middle East, (2) The Korean Peninsula (3) China and Taiwan. There are more. The self-justifying, self-fulfilling delusional aspects of Bush's reality, as he chooses to define and express in his recent speeches, also have to be taken into account. Never forget that Bush and Blair manufactured the hideous situation they studiously defend and continue in spite of being exposed as dangerous liars.

Although this book was written in 1993, it is an excellent source book on the basic dangers of an accidental nuclear war that destroys our planet. He details many near misses. Does Israel Plan Further Expansion Into Palestine?
July 18, 2005

To stop further slaughter in the Middle East, please take action on the possibility of massive bombing, invasion and slaughter of Palestinians by Israel. Some of Sharon's most ardent supporters believe God gave Palestinian territory to Israel 3,000 years ago, and that therefore Israel has the right to drive Palestinians off the land and then possess it as their own. The expansion of Israel into Palestine and building Jewish settlements on Palestine land, is a part of this policy and was initiated by Sharon. Israel needs resistance by the Palestinians and the consequent killing of some Jews, which they call "terrorism", in order to justify continued expansion, bulldogging Palestinian homes and stealing their land.

Creating the Climate of Fascism
Comment by Larry Ross

Here is a good example of how Bush supporters accuse those with serious concerns about protecting and preserving the environment, of being potential criminals endangering the environment. To get rid of or intimidate their opponents, right wing Bush supporters accuse them of planning criminal, destructive acts. Using this kind of climate as their cover, Bush supporters are more able to exploit the environment, while denying there is any problem - such as in the case of rapid global warming.

Equating eco-activists with terrorism is now commonplace among conservative mouthpieces and the FBI alike. Currently, about 20 million people tune in to Rush Limbaugh every week. His lingo is now conservative lingua franca. Limbaugh figured out that if you repeat your best lines -- e.g., "environmentalist wackos" -- often enough, they become more than just funny catchphrases; they become a reconfiguration of reality and a call to arms. In his world (and it's a world in which a lot of people live), you can't be an environmentalist and escape wacko-ism.

Financial Basis of US Militarism, War, and the Drift to Fascism
July 11, 2005

Can you imagine that in a time of peace at the end of the cold war, with the US recognised as the only superpower, the US military takes 68 cents of every tax dollar for defence, as against only 32 cents on everything else. And it's not enough, they want more.

Two-Thirds On Defense
by Jurgen Brauer and Nicholas Anglewicz
July 10, 2005

Many Americans believe that 19 cents on defense for every 81 cents on non-defense is a reasonable way to spend a tax dollar. But by another calculation, the tax dollar splits 68 cents for defense and 32 cents on everything else. It is a common misconception that U.S. defense expenditure is equivalent to the Department of Defense outlays. Instead of $436.4 billion of defense expenditure, as Congressional budgeteers count, government statisticians in the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) counted $548.0 billion for calendar year 2004—a whopping $112 billion difference. And by our own calculations, U.S. defense expenditure is much higher than even the BEA's numbers suggest, namely $765.6 billion in calendar year 2004—about $330 billion or than the Department of Defense outlays.

Without 9/11, his lies and war crimes would not be possible. So far, he has got away with all these crimes, consolidated and increased his power domestically and externally. He is absolutely committed to continue these crimes, and will likely increase them. There seems to be no serious and powerful opposition from the Democrats or others, such as the mass media, to Bush's administration and actions.

ACTION IDEAS TO REDUCE LIKELIHOOD OF MORE WARS (20/6/03)

  1. Study the origins of the Iraq war, the new nuclear doctrines and lowered barrier, the US and UK lies, and the threats of new wars.

  2. Write letters-to-the-editor and/or articles exposing the dangers of the current situation, especially the new nuclear threats, the lies, the need for NZ to stay nuclear-free and perhaps play a pro-active or peacemaking role where possible. Copies, perhaps with an accompanying note by you, can be sent to the P.M. the Foreign Affairs Minister, your own MP and others. If your letter is published, clip out a copy, attach the Newspaper and date, and photocopy that for sending to the PM and MP’s. What this does is educate the public and MP’s. It also shows to elected decision-makers, is that an articulate, thinking person has views that reach fellow voters and may influence the way they vote.

  3. Write directly to your MP, the PM, President Bush, the UN Sec. Gen. Etc and others as you think appropriate, etc, giving your views and recommendations. If the PM does, or says something you agree with, then tell her and others in a Letter. Compliments are as important as criticism to encourage more of what you decide is the right actions. Letters on any subject are carefully noted and counted. They help decide politician’s actions.

  4. There are anti-war petitions and letters launched on email or website by peace groups in NZ, the US, or elsewhere for you to sign and support if you agree. It all helps.

  5. Talk about current affairs, wars and threats at smoko and other social situations. This helps educate, and indicates that topics other than sporting, can be of genuine interest and may affect them and loved ones far more than the current sport. Make serious discussion an 'in thing’ instead of a ‘no no’.

  6. Arrange to invite knowledgeable people to speak to your group, or groups, as appropriate. Publicise them if possible.

  7. Help the political candidate in your electorate most likely to support nuclear-free NZ and take an anti-war position – especially if they have a chance of being elected. You may have talents, skills or just time they can use.

  8. Join, or start, a local peace group. Use your time and skills to help them achieve mutual peace objectives.

  9. National and Act parties, the USA, UK and Australia want NZ to reverse or modify its nuclear law, so that US and UK nuclear warships may visit NZ ports. Under the neither confirm-nor-deny US policy, we would never know if, when, or which, warships might be nuclear-armed, or rearmed at any time. Any such visits will tie NZ into the nuclear war infrastructure. If war breaks out, a visiting U.S. or U.K. warship and its NZ port could become a target. Nuclear warship visits to NZ would signal to potential enemies that the ANZUS Alliance was in tact and New Zealand supported U.S. nuclear weapons and war policies. It would also communicate to other states and peoples that New Zealand has abandoned its courageous nuclear free policy and become again a pliant ally of an increasingly dangerous U.S. A. Be sure that your MP understands that, and all the implications, and holds firm with “no change to the New Zealand nuclear free legislation”. Write about it, lobby for it, and visit your MP about it. Our lives, our children’s and grandchildren’s lives may depend on NZ remaining Nuclear Free.

  10. If you can’t afford much time, perhaps because of work pressures, or other commitments, perhaps you can afford to donate to a peace group, generously if possible, because our global future depends on the action taken by concerned people all around the world. Encourage others to extend their efforts. The $ billions fuelling the nuclear arms race, and the deeply entrenched, very rich, right wingers, generously funding the Bush administration, and the enormously powerful industrial complex. These are all reasons why peace budgets, to succeed in their missions, must be much larger than ever before. People must begin to tax themselves for peace as we are now taxed for war preparations, and new weapons. Peace people often have little or no money for their campaigns, and are saddled with the usual responsibilities. They need more generous benefactors who believe that peace work is at least as important as war and weapons work in our nuclear age.

  11. Download this speech, and make copies for others. Forward it and post it on other websites.

  12. The N.Z. Nuclear Peacemaking Association does welcome donations to help us wage our campaigns. Judge us on our record of being an originator and an achiever of the N.Z. nuclear free campaign since 1980. We do have an understanding of the enormous problems, and some practical ideas on what we can do to help reverse the trends toward a nuclear disaster. I did receive a Queen’s Service Medal for my nuclear free work in 1986, and a Christchurch City Council Peace Award in 2002. Funds are used for such essentials as buying ink for our computers, many other office expenses, stamps, paper, petrol, phone and power, travel, and maintenance of our web site: http://www.nuclearfree.org.nz/archives

  13. You may indicate if you wish to consider a regular financial pledge for our work. You will be contacted. Donors, or intending donors who supply their email address will receive regular reports and updates on the use of funds, the International and nuclear situation, and suggestions for action.

  14. Make an immediate statement by ordering some of our “KEEP NZ NUCLEAR FREE” stickers to use on your car and in other locations. The price is $2 each, or $15 for a display of 10. Another way to express our position is to display our full colour ‘NUCLEAR FREE PACIFIC’, sticker. The price is $3 each, and $20 for a display of 10. A full catalogue of Peace Aids will be sent with every order.
