Preparing For and Justifying Nuclear Extinction Nuclear Destruction, A Brief History of Cold War Nuclear Developments,
The Proliferation,
Comment by Larry Ross, January 22, 2007
The following article shows how humanity has developed its 'cold wars' and nuclear arms races since 1945. There are about 25,000 nuclear weapons, many on hair-trigger 'launch-on-warning' alert status. Humanity could become virtually extinct in an afternoon "by accident, miscalculation or act of madness" as President Kennedy warned at the UN in 1962 and many other statesmen and experts have warned since. Since 1945 humanity has become adjusted to living on the "brink of the nuclear abyss" as ex-UK Chief of Staff, Lord Louis Mountbatten defined it in 1979. People hardly give it a thought. If it's brought up, they either dismiss it or change the subject. Throughout human history we have used every weapon we have ever invented. 99% of all species of life on this planet have become extinct for a variety of reasons - many because their environment was changed so it would no longer support life. We are doing the same with our various systems, to change our natural environment and bring on global warming which can destroy us in a few decades. But we also spend hundreds of billions of dollars making devices that can provide nuclear explosions, blast, fires, nuclear winter, radiation, that can create human extinction many times over. This gives us the power to change our environment instantly and make it uninhabitable for most life forms. Bush has surrounded himself with the kind of people who don't ask questions or raise objections - people who will say "yes" to using nuclear weapons and not count the possible costs. It is lefties who are cowardly and raise problems and criticise they claim. Red-blooded patriotic Americans wrapped in the flag, mouthing slogans of 'freedom and liberty' and singing hymns of worship, are as keen for self-sacrifice as the young Aztecs who lined up to have their hearts carved out by their high priests of the day. George Bush and his neocons are our high priests in our day, preparing the modern version of mass execution for eager 'End Timers' who can hardly wait for Bush's promised heavenly Armageddon. Humanity has forged a 60 year ban and many treaties against the use of nuclear weapons, because we realised that using them risked self-extinction. In 2002 President Bush decreed that we now lift the ban on using nuclear weapons. He and the Pentagon can now use them pre-emptively or introduce them into a conventional conflict against both nuclear and non-nuclear nations. We have decided to permit our Bushcon high priests to make first strike pre-emptive nuclear war against whoever they choose to demonise. As well, the Bush Pentagon have decided to allow field military commanders to initiate the process of nuclear weapons use by recommending the introduction of nuclear weapons into conventional conflicts. We keep inventing new terms and rationalizations to make us feel good and to justify such fateful steps, while our media deliberately down-plays this development. If they print it at all, it is usually in small print on a back page that few read. The media treats this revolutionary reversal in nuclear policy to actually use nuclear weapons in conventional battles as a perfectly normal military development. The public, like sheep, accept that with hardly a comment or a protest. They have accepted Bush's death warrant without realizing they have done so. The ever-obedient mass media have ensured that the public will not become aware of Bush's lies, possible false flags or how they have already been terribly deceived. Bush is now preparing to use nuclear weapons which can expand to a global holocaust. Yet because of expert media manipulations and suppression of the facts, people still act as if nothing is happening. They continue with 'business as usual' and permit their high priests to continue the final preparations. How can we claim we are an intelligent species, if we so diligently work to bring it about? We and our media, like to pretend that the illegal Iraq invasion and massacre of 655,000 Iraqis, and planned nuclear war on Iran to create the worst crisis ever facing humanity, is somehow not something we should be concerned about. Like Pontius Pilate, most of us just wash our hands and cant be bothered. The media simply deny, dismiss and will not discuss the lies and realities. So we casually drift toward extinction feeling safe in our artificially-created bubble of ignorance and with hardly a thought for the nightmare we have made for others, and are in the process of making soon for ourselves. For example: many authoritative papers by experts warn us that the Bush regime is preparing to wage nuclear war against Iran. Every article and warning about nuclear war leading to self-extinction during the last 60 years has been thrown in the waste basket. The social climate seems to encourage us to discard, deny, minimalise, forget, suppress, or dismiss such subjects, with a nervous smile, a laugh and a "I can do nothing. If it comes, it comes" statements. There is very little opposition to Bush's plans for nuclear war on Iran, and most people believe the new lies he has invented to justify it, or his collaborating with Israel to do it. Incredibly we seem to be making sure that we'll definitely go for extinction during this present crisis. We have given the trigger for self-extinction to a very limited, crackpot President who with his aides, has managed to transform himself into a virtual puppet dictator. As a pious Christian Fundamentalist, 'end times' believer, George Bush, is religiously and ideologically equipped to lead us to the biblically prophesied Armageddon. Human weapons evolution have given Bush the means to make us extinct. The evolution of psychological warfare with billion dollar budgets, have given him the tactics, methods of persuasion and propaganda designed to make us believe each new lie which justifies a phoney attack. Tactics such as False Flag operations to incriminate Iran and justify Bush's use of nuclear weapons are an integral part of Bush's operation. If his lies and justifications get us to the point where we permit Bush and the Pentagon, or Israel to launch their nuclear weapons attack, it will be too late to stop it, or prevent the millions of casualties and catastrophic events that may follow. Bushcons like to pacify critics by calling nuclear weapons "mini-nukes", that won't hurt us or set off a general war. Therefore they argue, we can safely use them. They know people don't like being disturbed by reality and will accept whatever excuses the mass media provide. Not only that, our elected representatives - Congressmen and Senators have given George Bush a carte blanche to wage pre-emptive nuclear, allowing his administration to provide their own justification for this extreme step. The US Congress and Senate, have made pre-emptive nuclear war legal under US law. They sanction Bush's withdrawal from, or circumvention, of nuclear disarmament treaties. In the nuclear age the consequences of this US law apply everywhere. Because of the artfully constructed 'media bubble of ignorance and denial' surrounding the majority of people, and their carefully indoctrinated preference for amusement rather than serious issues, there is little awareness and even less active concern, that a religious crackpot and his disciples may soon murder us, our families, and all future generations. Our website shows various ways this terrifying prospect can still be constructively opposed at: http://www.nuclearfree.org.nz/archives
. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Encyclopedia of Death and Dying :: Me-Nu Nuclear DestructionThe Nazi death camps and the mushroom cloud of nuclear explosion are the two most potent images of the mass killings of the twentieth century. As World War II ended and the cold war began, the fear of nuclear annihilation hung like a cloud over the otherwise complacent consumerism of the Eisenhower era. The new technologies of mass death exacted incalculable costs, draining the treasuries of the United States and the Soviet Union and engendering widespread apocalyptic fatalism, distrust of government, and environmental degradation. The advent of nuclear weapons fundamentally altered both the nature of war and the relationship of the military with the rest of society. A 1995 study by John Pike, the director of the space policy project at the Federation of American Scientists, revealed that the cost of nuclear weapons has constituted about one-fourth to one-third of the entire American military budget since 1945. President Eisenhower, in his farewell speech on the threats posed by the "military-industrial complex," warned of the potential of new technology to dominate the social order in unforeseen ways. The "social system which researches, chooses it, produces it, polices it, justifies it, and maintains it in being," observed British social historian E. P. Thompson, orients its "entire economic, scientific, political, and ideological support-system to that weapons system" (Wieseltier 1983, p. 10). Throughout the cold war, U.S. intelligence reports exaggerated the numbers and pace of development of the Soviet Union 's production of bombs and long-range nuclear forces, thus spurring further escalations of the arms race and the expansion of the military-industrial complex. In the 1950s there was the bomber gap, in the 1960s it was the missile gap, in the 1970s the civilian defense gap, and in the 1980s the military spending gap. The Soviet Union and the members of the NATO alliance developed tens of thousands of increasingly sophisticated nuclear weapons and delivery systems (e.g., cannons, bombers, land- and submarine-based intercontinental ballistic missiles) and various means of protecting them (e.g., hardened underground silos, mobile launchers, antiballistic missiles). With the possible exception of the hydrogen bomb, every advance in nuclear weaponry?from the neutron bomb and X-ray warheads to the soldier-carried Davy Crockett fission bomb?was the product of American ingenuity and determination. A Brief History of Cold War Nuclear Developments During World War II, while German research resources were largely invested in developing the V-1 and V-2 guided missiles, similar investments were being made by the United States and selected allies in producing the ultimate bomb through the highly secret Manhattan Project. The first nuclear device was detonated before dawn on July 16, 1945, at the Alamogordo Test Range in south central New Mexico. Within two months, atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The U.S. government claimed that these bombings were necessary to shorten the war and avoid the anticipated heavy casualties of a land invasion of Japan, but later revisionist historians have disputed that motivation, claiming rather that the blasts were intended as an advertisement of American power over the Soviet Union.
