Evidence of Accelerating Global Warming

There is increasing evidence that global warming is accelerating, as the following article demonstrates.

Even if serious steps were agreed by the world's governments, it would take years to reverse global warming trends. US leadership in such a crusade is unlikely. George Bush has earned a reputation as a climate change denier and will not even sign the weak  Kyoto treaty. This attitude guarantees that significant progress in reversing global warming is unlikely for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately for humanity, but a benefit for Bush and the tiny clique surrounding him, they can play the global warming card to advance their wars and campaign for global domination.

Firstly the global warming (GW) crisis takes public attention, informed concern and opposition away from Bush's horrific illegal wars, killings and plans for more, larger wars. Secondly GW adds to global instability, conflicts and chaos in which the US can intervene and manage to its own benefit. For example: Every war presents a marketing opportunity for the US - the world largest arms exporter. It also weakens other governments and makes them more dependant on their chief arms supplier. Thirdly it also gives the Bush regime another blackmail device as US policies dictate what will be done, and not done to reverse GW. The same attitudes applies to any restrictions on global population growth. Soberly expressed lip service, promises and token gestures is all we can expect - if the record since GW warnings began is any indication.

Bush is already gambling with the fate of the earth by threatening to use nuclear weapons against Iran. This can easily trigger an international nuclear war which destroys humanity. The Bushites know this but are willing to take any risks to achieve their empire. Also, Bush's proclaimed religious beliefs as a Christian Fundamentalist are that GW disasters or a nuclear holocaust would be God's judgement on man and usher in the biblically-promised Armageddon. Bush sees such a possibility as in keeping with the teachings he believes in. It will be seen by Fundamentalists as the prophesied final battle between good and evil in which Bush and other true believers will be “raptured” directly to Heaven. The rest of us will rot in hell according to Fundamentalists. The growing group of Americans who enthusiastically believe Christian Fundamentalism beliefs has moved the cult from the fringe to part of the American mainstream. It represents the 30% dedicated hardcore of Bush support. They do not question, they do not doubt, they are dedicated and they financially tithe themselves unstintingly for their beliefs. They will follow their God-inspired leader through the gates of a nuclear hell singing praises to the lord.

An iIland Made by Global Warming:

The map of Greenland will have to be redrawn. A new island has appeared off its coast, suddenly separated from the mainland by the melting of Greenland's enormous ice sheet, a development that is being seen as the most alarming sign of global warming.

Several miles long, the island was once thought to be the tip of a peninsula halfway up Greenland's remote east coast but a glacier joining it to the mainland has melted away completely, leaving it surrounded by sea.

Shaped like a three-fingered hand some 400 miles north of the Arctic Circle, it has been discovered by a veteran American explorer and Greenland expert, Dennis Schmitt, who has named it Warming Island (Or Uunartoq Qeqertoq in Inuit, the Eskimo language, that he speaks fluently).

The US Geological Survey has confirmed its existence with satellite photos, that show it as an integral part of the Greenland coast in 1985, but linked by only a small ice bridge in 2002, and completely separate by the summer of 2005. It is now a striking island of high peaks and rugged rocky slopes plunging steeply to a sea dotted with icebergs.

As the satellite pictures and the main photo which we publish today make clear, Warming Island has been created by a quite undeniable, rapid and enormous physical transformation and is likely to be seen around the world as a potent symbol of the coming effects of climate change.
