EMAILING UN DELEGATIONS

A suggestion re John's sample letter below is the addition that in a worst case scenario 3.6 million people will be killed with a scenario of Saddam using bio and chem weapons and the USA retaliating with nuclear weapons. Clearly a totally sick, totally preventable scenario IF these countries vote against war. I'd also add in the sample letter that it's more than time that the USA be stood up to by the rest of the world and not allow themselves to be cowed, threatened economically, etc. Do what you [they] know is right. It's that simple.

Subject: [abolition-caucus] UN Security Council Emails - Iraq Resolution Coming Up Monday IMPORTANT!

Dear All,

According to Australia's UN ambassador John Dauth, the 'second resolution', promoted by the US and the UK and authorising war, (or considered to be the trigger to do so) is coming up on Monday, US time (that's approx 18 hours behind Australian time, or 6 hours ahead on the previous day). That means there is very little time to lobby!

But there is still some time left in which to send a message to the UN!

Apart from sending a message to President Chirac (+33-147-42-2465.)
and to President Putin (+7-095-206-5173)
and to German chancellor Schroeder ( +49-228-56-2357)
You can send a message to the whole Security Council at the email addresses below. In particular, the missions of Spain, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Guinea, Mexico, Angola, Cameroon, China, and Chile need to hear from you that they should vote against any resolution that authorises war with Iraq.

Angola
ang-un@angolamissionun.org   Guinea guinea@un.int
Bulgaria bulgaria@un.int   Mexico mexico@un.int
Cameroon info@cameroonmission.org   Russia rusun@un.int
Chile chile@un.int   Spain spain@spainun.org
China chinamission_un@fmprc.gov.cn   Syria syria@un.int
France france-presse@un.int   United Kingdom uk@un.int
Germany contact@germany-un.org

Here is a sample letter, this one to the Chinese delegation:

To: chinamission_un@fmprc.gov.cn
Subject: Security Council Veto

I urge your representative in the United Nations Security Council to VETO or VOTE AGAINST any resolution sponsored by the United States which would authorize an aggressive war against Iraq by the United States and any "coalition of the willing."

As a citizen of the United States of America, I am appalled by the recent actions taken by the government of the U. S. with regard to Iraq. While ignoring completely far greater threats to world peace and security, the Bush Administration has itself become the greatest threat to peace, all in the empty name of ridding the world of a dictator which previous U. S. governments supported.

Please VETO or VOTE AGAINST the forthcoming U. S. resolution to authorize war against Iraq; do not just abstain!

Thank you.
