Iraq May Be the Greatest Crisis of Modern Times Comment by Larry Ross, April 13, 2007
All I can say about Pilger's article "Iraq May Be The Greatest Crisis of Modern Times" is Amen, how right he is. Let us hope that Pilger will cut through public apathy and awaken people who so far, have refused to be concerned. Just about everyone in the developed countries march happily and deliberately unaware, toward Bush's final Armageddon death camps, denying the unthinkable reality with every step. So did the Jews, as they marched into Hitler's death camps. Most Jews just couldn't believe that they and their families were to become victims of the most diabolical evil ever conceived by man. It is the same today, but the reality is well-camouflaged because we are still able to continue life as usual - for the moment. Many war- conditioned Americans, deluded by lies and war propaganda, are calling for this to be done to the Iranians. Nuke them is their war cry. They want instant Belsen death camps for Iranians - not because the Iranians have done anything to deserve such a genocidal fate, but because the Bush regime has conditioned people to believe a pack of lies that Iran is terrorist and a nuclear threat. How can Americans believe this new set of lies about Iran, when they have already been deceived by the Bush regime with a litany of lies designed to fool them into supporting a war on Iraq? The short answer is: "very easily". They can be deceived again and again, as Hitler proved in World War II. Hitler said in his book, Mien Camp "The bigger the lie the more people will believe it". He then proceeded to demonstrate this rule - with media support and repetition. He needed a few tricks or "false flags" as aids to deceive his public. So he had the Reichstag burned down and blamed terrorists as his excuse for war. That was his major 'false flag' used to set his war machine in motion. It worked for him, just as a 'false flag' staged by Bush to blame Iran, is likely to work to facilitate his present war plans. Again, the vital ingredient is media support and repetition of the big lies. Hitler marched across Europe with popular support, as Bush may do when he massively bombs Iran. Unless people doubt and look to Internet and elsewhere for the truth, they are easily deceived by propaganda. What people don't realise is how very different and instantaneous, wars and weapons technology can be today. Iran can be bombed back to the Stone Age in an afternoon with millions of casualties. Hitler didn't have the technology to do that. Bush does. If this triggers a nuclear World War III as many experts predict, the world and all humanity, can suffer a similar fate in an afternoon. People seem determined to deny this reality and seem to have some mysterious faith in the inherent rationality of those groups of men who control the world's 8 nuclear arsenals, many on hair-trigger alert. People have learned to adapt and to accept as normal, the prospect of instant global death. With the Iraq war many learned to adapt to the fact that a murderous criminal regime was now in charge of humanity's collective fate and that they used lies and related techniques to start wars aimed at world domination. The mass media will perform their role to spread and repeat lies and war propaganda in order to facilitate any kind of war the Bush regime decides to wage. They did it for the Iraq war and are doing it for Bush's coming war on Iran. They seem to laugh at the truth. They obviously relish and enjoy their role as Bush's chief liars. They must get a real high and feeling of power, when they suppress articles and letters from honest knowledgeable experts, which reveal the truth and expose Bush lies. In their blind loyalty to a power-mad nuclear extremist they will be the bell-wethers, the Judas sheep, leading their flocks to a nuclear Armageddon, while repeatedly convincing themselves they did the right thing. To the media war hounds, anything, anything at all is preferable to exposing and opposing Bush's lies for war. For accurate unbiased news coverage of international events, try Internet news and anti-war web sites. I've cancelled my daily newspaper and use Internet instead. For example, if you put "US Nuclear War on Iran " into a Google search, you'll get more than a million articles - many by well-known experts you can trust. I think you'll find these are far more satisfying and accurate than Murdock or Fairfax hack writers and slick war propaganda commentators. To warn others of this real looming catastrophe, forward this Pilger article and comment to others. Check some of the other great articles on our website: http://www.nuclearfree.org.nz

Iraq May Be the Greatest Crisis of Modern Times by John Pilger,
April 12, 2007 In a cover piece for the New Statesman, John Pilger evokes the memory of Germans 'looking from the side' at Bergen-Belsen to describe the challenge facing us in the West as the Bush/Blair 'long war' becomes 'perhaps the greatest crisis of modern times'. The Israeli journalist Amira Hass describes the moment her mother, Hannah, was marched from a cattle train to the Nazi concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen. “They were sick and some were dying,” she says. “Then my mother saw these German women looking at the prisoners, just looking. This image became very formative in my upbringing, this despicable ‘looking from the side'.” It is time we in Britain and other Western countries stopped looking from the side. We are being led towards perhaps the most serious crisis in modern history as the Bush-Cheney-Blair “long war” edges closer to Iran for no reason other than that nation's independence from rapacious America. The safe delivery of the 15 British sailors into the hands of Rupert Murdoch and his rivals (with tales of their “ordeal” almost certainly authored by the Ministry of Defence – until it got the wind up) is both a farce and a distraction. The Bush administration, in secret connivance with Blair, has spent four years preparing for “Operation Iranian Freedom”. Forty-five cruise missiles are primed to strike. According to Russia's leading strategic thinker General Leonid Ivashov: “Nuclear facilities will be secondary targets... at least 20 such facilities need to be destroyed. Combat nuclear weapons may be used. This will result in the radioactive contamination of all the Iranian territory, and beyond.” And yet there is a surreal silence, save for the noise of “news” in which our powerful broadcasters gesture cryptically at the obvious but dare not make sense of it, lest the one-way moral screen erected between us and the consequences of an imperial foreign policy collapse and the truth be revealed. John Bolton, formerly Bush's man at the United Nations, recently spelled out the truth: that the Bush-Cheney-Blair plan for the Middle East is an agenda to maintain division and instability. In other words, bloodshed and chaos equals control. He was referring to Iraq, but he also meant Iran. |
