U.S. and Israel Step Up War On Muslim Nations From Larry Ross, July 24, 2006
The following 3 articles provide an account of the issues and background to the Israeli offensive against Lebanon. As the New York Times reported, the Bush Administration has sent Israel a large order of precision bombs to use in this offensive. Bush also blames Hezbollah for the huge Israeli assault, because they captured 3 Israeli soldiers. He justifies this grossly disproportionate Israeli response and the invasion of Lebanon and blocks any effective international action to stop it. From 1950 to 2005 the U.S. has supplied 95 billion dollars in military assistance to Israel. 85% of Israeli arms are supplied by the U.S. It is quite clear from these figures and many other indicators that Israel and the U.S. closely co-operate in their military attacks in the middle east. The Bush Administration could stop Israel's war-making at any time if it wished, and could certainly stop it's military aid to Israel. This support and close co-operation with U.S. middle-east strategy continues to make it possible for Israel to pursue an expansionist policy and ignore international law and U.N. resolutions. Both have objectives of provoking a war with Iran, and possibly Syria. They are setting the stage for this greater assault by blaming Syria and Iran for helping Lebanon, particularly Hezbollah. As indicated on our website under U.S. WAR WITH IRAN, the U.S. may use nuclear weapons against Iran, unless they have decided to give this role to Israel. Top epublicans have written that "the Bush Administration will stage a phoney 'terrorist attack on the U.S.', blame Iran, then use that as justification to make war on Iran". However the Israeli assault on Lebanon and blaming Syria and Iran, suggests they may use this, and Iran's development of nuclear power as their excuses for war instead. Either way the U.S. and Israel have started major wars in the Muslim world and are headed for a much bigger war with Iran. The neo-conservative plan to dominate middle east oil resources by initiating military conquest is being implemented. Both Israel and the U.S., supported by the UK, have enormous arsenals of nuclear weapons while their chosen opponents have none. They are willing to play 'nuclear chicken' with Russia and China and gamble that neither will interfere with the U.S.-Israeli conquest. The only Muslim state that has a few nuclear weapons is Pakistan, who knows it could easily be annihilated if it intervened. The U.S. and Israel would probably calculate that this would be a safe gamble, and in any case they are ready to take a few million U.S. deaths if it escalates. What are loyal, patriotic, dumbed down Americans good for, if not to support their noble leaders in 'always justified' humanitarian wars? The mass media are certainly doing their best to be good propagandists for the Bush Administration, it's lies and its illegal wars. This is a very sad
situation for the human race and could become terminal. We could
do so very much better. We have the knowledge and wealth to
solve all our problems and conflicts and make a peaceful sustainable
world. If only we had the will and wisdom. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE
POWER OF ARROGANCE:
I highly recommend 3 essays for insightful reading, forwarding and online publication: [1] Niranjan Ramakrishnan's 7-18-06 CC essay, "The Power Of Arrogance" [Notwithstanding the cries of outrage and shock over the events in the Middle East, is there really any difference between the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and the Israeli attacks on Lebanon? A new parody of the Cartesian mindset is in play here -- "I think (I can get away with it), therefore I do it." Of course, international law does NOT recognize the right for any nation to forcibly impose a "regime change" upon another sovereign nation. If such a right existed, it would proliferate an endless succession of wars. And yet the above-the-the-law U.S. has gone into Afghanistan and Iraq, and the above-the-law Israel has gone into Gaza and Lebanon, to forcibly impose "regime change."]: http://www.countercurrents.org/leb-rama180706.htm [2] Thalif Deen's
