Keep out Nuclear Ships

Dear Sir,

Can anyone tell me why allowing US warships ~ nuclear powered or otherwise, into NZ harbours will prevent terrorism in Bali or anywhere else? What is the real reason for US pressure to get rid of our Nuclear Free policy? Perhaps the US resents us holding the higher moral ground and wants to ‘put us in our place’. In the past the US said it would neither confirm nor deny if it had nuclear weapons on board its nuclear powered warships, has this changed?

Also, is there anyone who can honestly say that the renewed US production of nuclear weapons of mass destruction is totally acceptable? Should NZ buy into this militarisation of the earth?

The main reason New Zealanders would give up their nuclear freedom and kowtow to America is to get a 'not for free' trade deal. But is it worth selling out on our principles for economic gain?

Although the times have changed the horror of nuclear weapons, and the war making mentality remains the same. New Zealand should proudly maintain its nuclear free position as the best way to be of genuine service to our US friends in the common quest for peace and international security.

Yours sincerely,

Laurie Ross
