Negroponte - Bush's New Chief Terrorist

Comment by Larry Ross, May 26, 2005

This well-documented article on John Negroponte shows how he has been associated with US-sponsored terrorism throughout his long career. It is another indicator of what the world can expect from the Bush Administration in the future. Resort to war, and the use of terror and clandestine operations to implement US policies are likely.

For the Iraq war the Bush administration created the intelligence it wanted to justify the war.
Although there was dissenting US intelligence, some of which leaked out: - that Saddam and Iraq were not threats to the US, UK and neighbours; that Iraq had no WMD; and no links to Al-Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks, the manufactured intelligence of the Bush-neocon administration prevailed. It was the manufactured intelligence that was featured in the mass media, who never to this day, have apologised for grossly misinforming their readers.

With Negroponte, now Czar of all 14 US Intelligence organizations, we can expect more intelligence tailored to suit the policies the Bush administration wishes to implement.

e.g. Iraq war intelligence was 'cherry-picked' and adjusted to justify neocon war plans. Troublesome dissenters were suppressed. For new wars, the creation of the necessary intelligence will be a smoother operation with fewer, if any, dissenting voices.

Also, more covert operations, perhaps major ones such as OPERATION NORTHWOODS, designed to justify war with Cuba, can be expected with Negroponte controlling all US intelligence. (see A Guide to Future US Covert Ops?)

To avoid being misled, friendly allies, who previously treated US intelligence as gospel, should learn from the Iraq war example. US intelligence should be very carefully examined, evaluated and assessed, as to accuracy, real US motives and intentions, and what the US might hope the intelligence would accomplish.

The John Bolton appointment to be US ambassador to the UN, is another example of George Bush scraping the bottom of the US barrel to elevate the worst elements to high positions of power. He is well-known for his pro-war, anti-UN attitudes.

The following article was also published in the May 2005 issue of 'Z' Magazine.

"He will be a key figure in US counter-terror operations." --BBC News, Feb. 17, 2005

"I think he could have stopped all these assassinations and torture... We're against this nomination. If he didn't see human rights violations in Honduras, it's possible he won't see human rights violations anywhere in the world." --Leo Valladares Lanza, former head, Honduran Human Rights Commission, quoted in New York Times, March 29, 2005.
