More than 150,000 petitions sent to
Bush, Cheney, Halliburton, and Congress
More than 4,500 signers on the Stop
War on Iran Statement (view list)
Next Step: Help us
get the word out across the U.S.
Two weeks ago, StopWarOnIran.org
issued a statement opposing a war against Iran and urging "an
immediate end to Washington's campaign of sanctions, hostility,
and falsehood against the people of Iran." Initial signers
included Bishop Thomas Gumbleton; Bishop Filipe C Teixeira; Michael
Parenti; Ramsey Clark; Howard Zinn; George Galloway, MP; Tony
Benn, MP; Denis J. Halliday; Harold Pinter; Margarita
Papandreou, former First Lady of Greece; Ardeshir Ommani, co-founder
of American-Iranian Friendship Committee (AIFC); Prof. Ervand
Abrahamian, Author, Between Two Revolutions; Prof. David N. Rahni;
David Sole, President UAW, Local 2334*; Steve Gillis, President,
USWA Local 8751*; the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Nyack, NY;
Thomas Koppel and Annisette, of the Scandanavian popular band
Savage Rose; and many others.
This statement
was sent out as news organizations were reporting that the Bush
Asministration is preparing for imminent strikes against more
than 20 targets in Iran.
Response to the StopWarOnIran call was immediate and overwhelming.
In just a few days, more than 150,000 petitions have been sent
to President Bush, Vice President Cheney, the Board of Directors
of Halliburton, and Congressional leaders from both parties.
More than 4,500 organizations signed on to the call.
Our next step is to turn
up the heat and get the word out from coast to coast.
Politicians and corporate-owned news media are repeating
the same lies they used to justify the war against Iraq.
If the truth is going to get out, it's going to take a
grassroots movement to do it. StopWarOnIran, an
all-volunteer group of activists, needs your help with
the expenses involved in building a national network to
stop the drive towards a new war. We also plan to place
full-page
ads in major newspapers across the country.
Please consider making a generous donation
at http://stopwaroniran.org/donate.shtml
to help us continue to educate and organize. If
the events of the past few years have taught us anything,
it is that we cannot count on the corporate media to tell
the truth and we cannot count on politicians to stop the
war. It's up to us to mobilize and organize to stop
the war before it starts.
