No Proof of Iran Nuclear Weapons

Comment by Larry Ross, November 24, 2006

The International Atomic Energy Authority (IAEA), which continues to inspect Iran nuclear facilities under the terms of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and makes regular reports to the UN on their findings, says there is no evidence that Iran has nuclear arms or preparations to make nuclear arms. The following article says the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports a similar finding.

Yet the Bush Administration and Israel claim Iran is a nuclear threat and must be stopped. They constantly threaten to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities even threatening to use nuclear weapons against Iran to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons. Under this formula almost any non-nuclear weapon country could be bombed because they might, someday, make nuclear weapons. The U.S. and Israel assume they have the divine right to make these judgements. They have the nuclear military weapons to execute their form of punishment - based on their suspicion that someday, their chosen enemy might make nuclear weapons.

In other words, those who possess nuclear weapons, have the right to use nuclear weapons to prevent others who have no nuclear weapons, from acquiring them, even though there is no evidence such countries have any intention to acquire nuclear weapons. The US and Israel claim the right to lay waste to a  country by bombing it and killing and maiming any number of people for no reason other than what occurs in their imagination.

For hundreds of years governments have worked very hard and had many conferences to develop laws and treaties to prevent or limit wars. The result has been the United Nations, International law, the Geneva Accords and many disarmament and arms control treaties.

The U.S. and Israel have decided to ignore all such agreements and make war when they want, against whom they want, using whatever weapons they want. Polls show the majority of people agree with their judgements. That is mainly because the mass media in their countries repeat the lies of their governments and suppress information that exposes these lies. The media hardly ever refer to such laws and international agreements about war, and have a very permissive attitude if their government decides to violate such laws. The media, and people the media picks as commentators, often act as a 'cheerleaders' for government policies and lies. Thus the average citizen is uninformed of misinformed. A citizen is taught to hate and fear the enemy chosen for them by their leaders. That is why the majority of Americans and Israelis believe their governments are right to take military action against Iran.

'No proof' of Iran nuclear arms :

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has not found conclusive evidence
that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, a US magazine has reported.

Veteran investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, writing in The New Yorker, cites a secret CIA report based on intelligence such as satellite images.

Correspondents say the alleged document appears to challenge Washington's views regarding Iranian nuclear intentions.

The article says the White House was dismissive about the CIA report.

The US and Europe say Iran is pursuing a clandestine nuclear weapons programme - a charge Iran has strongly denied.

'Hostile' response

The CIA assessment, according to unnamed officials quoted in the article, casts doubt on how far Iran has actually progressed to making a nuclear weapon.

"The CIA found no conclusive evidence, as yet, of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program running parallel to the civilian operations that Iran has declared to the International Atomic Energy Agency," Mr Hersh wrote.
