Something Worse Than Fascism? Comment by Larry Ross, June 30, 2006
Read this and make your blood run cold with horror. Then think what is the real purpose of the torture policies of the Bush regime? It certainly isn't to extract accurate information from the victims. Various reports show that torture does not produce useable and reliable information. I think the purpose of these widespread U.S. torture techniques is to create fear among the general world population and send a message and warning to other governments. We know that Bush & Co cheated and tampered with the electronic voting machines to get elected in 2,000 and 2004. We know that they created a litany of lies to justify their Iraq invasion and occupation and the continued killing of hundreds of thousands of people. We know they are creating a new litany of lies to justify a war with Iran. We know they have two ideologies to justify this kind of criminal action. That opens a lot of doors that normal and humane people would never open. But the Bush regime are not normal people. Almost everything they do is designed to make more opposition - or "terrorists" as they like to call their opponents. It is this growing opposition that fuels the Bush regime and creates the apparent necessity for them to justify and wage an ever increasing "war on terrorism". "Endless war" they call it. They have claimed the right to make war on any other country - even pre-emptive nuclear war. As Noam Chomsky said recently, the cost of allowing the Bush regime to continue with these policies is nuclear war. The mystery is why do the majority of people, Congress, the Senate, The U.S. Democrats and some other governments meekly accept Bush lies, persist in believing them, and enact policies in support of them? It looks very much as if the Bush insanity is becoming more and more entrenched and powerful and less and less opposed by Governments and people. People do not seem to care or even worry about their fate. They blot out the whole thing from their consciousness and pretend it is not happening. This is fairly easy to do, as the mass media has an almost total blackout on the real news on what the Bush regime has done, is doing, plans to do and the likely consequences. So people don't know or care to find out. If it's not in the paper, its not happening and never happened.

Global Spiderweb Devastating Council of Europe report on CIA involvement with kidnapping and torture by Nat Hentoff,
June 25, 2006
Three years ago, a CIA kidnapping ring was in Italy to snatch a radical imam, Hussan Mustafa Nasr, from a street in Milan. Flown on a CIA plane to his native Egypt, Nasr was held in a dungeon where he was given electric shock treatments, hung upside down, and tortured in various positions. Released and then rearrested, Nasr disappeared in the bowels of the Egyptian prison system. While in Milan setting up the kidnapping, the CIA crew made many calls from their top-of-the-line hotel rooms, but these were not, as the spying trade puts it, on "secure phones." So, Italian intelligence agents had no difficulty tracking them—leading to arrest warrants for these CIA spooks for violating the sovereignty of Italy and its laws. I was sure that our Justice Department would never extradite the members of this gang because the president and his team continuously assure the world that we never ever send suspects to countries where they'd be tortured. But I have kept wondering whether, in Italy, the case of the CIA criminals has been closed. Continue... |
