Solar Bus Election News From Gary Beckwith, February 18, 2005 The Solar Bus Election Fraud and Reform site has been completely revamped, and there is news to report as well. You may have noticed that the web site was getting overloaded and cluttered. Actually it was getting WAY out of control! So I tamed it a bit, and made it easier to find what you're looking for. The front page now offers just the top stories and some highlighted information, while the archives and links pages have articles and information that was previously available, plus a lot more! A few new sections you may find interesting and useful include: * Near the bottom of the homepage, notice the "Be the Media" and "Top Action Items" sections. Many people have commented to me that they are upset about the stolen election, but they don't know what they can do about it. Well in these sections you can find some things to do about it. We need people to spread the truth; that's what the "Be the Media" section is for. There are free videos you can share with your friends, flyers you can print out, and other tools to make it easy. In the "Top Action Items," there are specific actions you can take to help the effort. * Video is becoming a powerful tool in sharing information and ideas. I've collected all the videos I can find (most of it free) on election fraud and made it easy for you to check them all out in one place. Here's a link to the video section: http://www.solarbus.org/election/links.shtml#video I hope you will find a few minutes to look over these and the other new features on the website. You'll probably stumble on some interesting information you hadn't seen before! Today Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer introduced their new election reform bill, the "Count Every Vote Act." The bill has not been released yet, but they had a press conference to describe the key points. I'm going to wait to comment on it until I've seen the bill, and given the experts a little time to look it over. You can watch the video of the press conference and/or read the press release at the top link on the home page. It's worth watching. There are now seven election reform bills before Congress and we don't know, there could be more coming. In the last few days I've learned that we can't rush to judgement on these bills. We need to let the experts digest them and point us to the good and bad things about the bills so that we can form our opinions and encourage our representatives to support the ones we like. Some of the bills have been out longer than others, so there is more commentary available. I believe that these election reform bills are an important part of our pathway back to democracy. It is important for us to learn about the bills and make sure we try to get the good ones passed. It's becoming clear that no single bill will address all the problems with the election, and we will need a combination of more than one bill. I wish it were more simple than this! To make it easy for folks to learn about the bills, there's a new section on the links page, with links to the bills, and all the independent analysis I can find: http://www.solarbus.org/election/links.shtml#legislation Legislation is not the only way to attack the problems with our election system. There's a lawyer in Washington DC who is getting ready to file a lawsuit claiming that Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) voting machines are illegal. He is confident there is legal precedence for his case. Solar Bus will be publishing an article by this lawyer in the next few days. Stay tuned! Another way to attack the problem - money talks. I recall that for years people were upset with Apartheid in South Africa, but it was only when we divested our money from the country that changes were made. The same concept is about to be applied at home, to the problems with our democracy. A major effort is now being planned to divest from Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia, and the other electronic voting machine companies. If it works, all the major mutual fund companies will be forced to stop investing in these companies, their stock will plummet, and we'll see what the consequences of that will be. Look for a major announcement on this coming soon. With this multi-pronged approach at fixing our democracy, I have hope. But it's only going to happen if we stay informed and we stay involved. I hope you will.
